Rockland Manufacturing’s new HKR Excavator Coupler incorporates important safety features and sets a new standard for excavator coupler excellence. The HKR coupler features twin locking, high visibility, cast steel hooks with two powerful alloy springs which guarantee the coupler will hold attachments – in the event of a hydraulic failure. An additional safety feature of the HKR is the exclusive patented Smart Valve which is part of the cylinder. This safety feature only allows the coupler to function while fully curled close to the machine, according to the manufacturer.
One of the key safety features of the Rockland HKR excavator coupler is shown in the diagram below. The built in “smart valve” prevents release of the attachment until the coupler is fully curled and in the release zone. This valve insures proper and safe operation.
The HKR coupler also features high visibility, cast steel locking hooks that are locked into position by two alloy springs. These springs create a fail safe retention system.
The Ultimate Test: An HKR coupler with bucket was installed on an excavator operating in a rock quarry. Both coupler hoses were cut to simulate a complete hydraulic failure. A month later the quarry needed to change buckets – they had to remove the coupler first.
