BUCKET.
Buckets are the most common and widely used attachment for construction equipment. They are designed to scoop up, carry and dump a wide variety of materials and will be found on many types of equipment including excavators, loader-backhoes, wheel and track loaders, skid steers and CTLs. The applications in which buckets are used include digging, trenching, sorting, ditch and canal cleaning, landscaping, mining, road building, material handling and demolition, to name a few.
Specialty buckets are available from attachment manufacturers to handle a wide variety of materials – everything from light and bulky wood chips, coal, agricultural products to dense, heavy materials - rock, iron ore, concrete slabs.
The main structural components of a typical bucket include the shell, side plates, cutting edge and mounting lugs that connect the bucket to the machine. The mounting lugs may be set up for a standard pin-on connection or a quick coupler. Bucket design, construction, types of steels used and add-on options such as ground engaging tools (GET) will vary with the bucket’s intended application.
4-IN-1 BUCKET.
The 4-in-1 Bucket also known as a multi-purpose bucket is one of the most versatile attachments on any job site. Use it as a conventional bucket, a dozer blade, a grapple, a scraper, a clamshell and a bottom dump bucket.
CLAMSHELL BUCKET.
Clamshell Buckets, as the name implies, resemble the two halves of a clamshell joined together with a hinge. They may be operated hydraulically or by a cable. Digging style clamshell buckets are used in excavation, dredging and road building. Rehandling style clamshell buckets are designed for moving loose, stockpiled materials and will be found loading and unloading barges, ships, and rail cars.
DITCH CLEANING BUCKET.
Ditch Cleaning, or Ditching Buckets are used for cleaning out irrigation and draining ditches, canals, settling ponds, landscaping, and maintaining banks and slopes. Many of these buckets have a low profile and are wider than a standard digging bucket. Ditch cleaning buckets typically have a smooth lip or bolt-on cutting edge. They may include drain holes.
GENERAL PURPOSE (GP) BUCKET.
As the name implies, general purpose or GP Buckets are suitable for most common tasks that the machine is designed to perform. They are available as standard equipment from most original equipment manufacturers. Features or options may include bucket teeth, a bolt-on cutting edge (BOE) and side cutters. Special, abrasion resistant steels may be offered in critical wear areas . The bucket may be set up for a standard pin-on connection or a quick coupler.
SKELETON BUCKET.
Skeleton Buckets, AKA Skeleton Rock Buckets are designed for separating rocks, rubble, roots and debris from the soil. The bucket incorporates a series of tines within the main body of the bucket that retain larger items while allowing dirt and smaller material to fall through the openings. The bucket is often rocked back and forth or shaken to release the fines. Some bucket manufacturers offer customized tine spacing to suit the customer’s needs.
HIGH DUMP BUCKET.
High Dump Buckets, also known as Roll-Out Buckets increase a loaders dump height by re-positioning the bucket hinge pin just behind the cutting edge. They are ideal for loading loose, bulky materials such as wood chips and mulch into high-sided trailers and hoppers.
